Providing rich physical education lessons is essential to the physical and mental health of our students. Weekly sessions are run focusing on skill development, improving physical health and fundamental motor skills.
At Darrang PS we believe that physical activity is an integral component of healthy living and effective learning. We incorporate physical activity in our daily timetable as specific skills or game-based lessons and through kinaesthetic learning options in all areas. Our sports equipment is also available for all students to use during the lunch break, as well as a variety of outdoor games including Connect 4, totem tennis, frisbees and skipping ropes.
PMP (Perceptual Motor Program) is undertaken by our Foundation, Year 1, and Year 2 students to allow them to develop core skills including throwing, catching, bouncing, balancing, crawling and hand-eye coordination.
Annual swimming classes are held to ensure students at Darrang PS are equipped with the ability to swim and develop water safety awareness.
A wide range of activities are promoted within our school, with students accessing expert coaching from a variety of sporting organisations including Rugby Victoria, Hockey Victoria, AFL Victoria. At Darrang PS our facilities include a ‘multi-purpose’ room for indoor activities, a large oval with goal posts and a running track, two basketball/netball courts, and large undercover areas for smaller games.
